About Jamia B.Ed (Regular / Nursery / Special Education)

Back in 1938, under the visionary leadership of Dr. Zakir Husain, a Teacher Training Institute (TTI) was born. This wasn’t just any institute—it was created to prepare teachers for the Basic Education Scheme that Mahatma Gandhi had launched in 1937. Imagine that: an institution set up almost a century ago to train teachers for schools that focused on local crafts and indigenous methods of education! It was one of the very first places in the country to offer such training, and it didn’t stop there. Over time, this institute grew and evolved into what we now know as the Teachers’ College. It even led the way in training art teachers, setting a high bar for innovative teacher education across the nation.

Fast forward to 1988, and another big milestone was reached. The Department of Teacher Training & Non-Formal Education at Jamia was the very first institution in the country to be upgraded to IASE status. This upgrade wasn’t just a title change—it was a recognition of the incredible work and contributions the department had made in the field of teacher education. The government’s nod of approval signaled its trust in the institution’s rich legacy and progressive vision.

So, what does the institution do today? Its mission is simple: to be a center of excellence in both teaching and research. Here’s a quick look at its core functions:

• Training Teachers: Whether you’re just starting out (pre-service) or already in the field (in-service), the department offers training for teachers at all levels—from nursery schools to secondary and special education.
• Building Future Educators: It also plays a key role in preparing new educators for elementary teacher education institutions and supports ongoing education for these professionals.
• Resource Development: The department develops and publishes useful materials for teachers and teacher educators, making sure that quality resources are always within reach.
• Research and Innovation: And of course, they’re always on the lookout for new ideas, conducting research and extension work to keep the field of teacher education vibrant and forward-thinking.

The B.Ed at Jamia Millia Islamia is very popular and attracts students from all over India and other countries.

B.Ed (Regular), B.Ed (Nursery Education) & B.Ed Special Education (Visual Impairment & Learning Disability)

B.Ed Eligibility Criteria for Jamia Millia Islamia

B.Ed (Regular) [B22]

1. Bachelor’s Degree in any School teaching subject with not less than 50% marks. (OR)
   Bachelor’s Degree in any school teaching subject with not less than 45% marks and minimum 50% marks in Master’s Degree examination in the same school teaching subject in which the candidate has applied.
2. The main school teaching subject in which the candidate is applying should have been studied in two years / Four Semesters in graduation. Teaching Subjects are shown in annexure-II, under the heading “Breakup of seats under different school teaching subjects for B.Ed. Program”. Check Prospectus!
3. Bachelor’s (Hons.) Degree in any school teaching subject as shown in annexure-II will be considered as the main teaching subject.
4. B.com (Hons.) alone are not eligible. M.com are eligible to opt. for commerce as the main teaching subject.

Note: (i) Department will allot second teaching subject to all admitted students from amongst the subjects which the candidate has studied during graduation. So, all the candidate applying for B.Ed. must have studied at least two teaching subjects in graduation.

(ii) We prepare Teachers in 17 school teaching subjects only as shown in annexure-II so, all applicants should have studied the subject in which they are applying in the same name as shown in the annexure-II The candidates having bachelor’s / Master Degree in subjects other than school subjects as shown in annexure–II are not eligible.

B.Ed (Nursery Education) [B24]

Bachelor’s Degree with not less than 50% marks. (Excluding B.A. / B.Sc. Vocational Studies). OR
Bachelor’s Degree with not less than 45% and at least 50% marks in Master’s Degree Examination.

B.Ed (Special Education) [B23]

B.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com or an equivalent degree at graduate level depending on the requirements for the particular course with Minimum 50% in the qualifying degree examination.

Jamia B.Ed Exam Test Centre

Entrance Tests shall be conducted at 7 Cities across India and at Jamia Campus.

JMI B.Ed Admit Card
