About Jamia B.A. Sociology, Psychology & Geography
The Psychology Department has been around since 1986 as an independent department. Over the years, it’s added different programs step by step: B.A. in 1981, PhD in 1984, B.A. Honors in 1985, M.A. in Applied Psychology in 1989, and an Advanced Diploma in Counseling Psychology in 2001.
The Sociology Department focuses on a few key goals: teaching students the basics of social science with an understanding of real-world issues, building skills for independent research that can help in careers like teaching, media, administration, leadership, and management, adding extra-curricular learning, encouraging bilingual skills (including using the mother tongue), and making space for student feedback. The department also pushes faculty members to keep researching and improving their knowledge. The curriculum blends interdisciplinary and interfaculty courses, offering both core and elective subjects in smaller units.
